Featured Speakers

Brittney Schurmann grew up on a dairy farm in Abbotsford.  Since completing her MSc in Animal Science in 2014, she has worked in the feed industry as a dairy nutritionist, currently with Ritchie Smith Feeds.

“Opportunities to Improve Dairy Farm Feed Efficiency”
In past couple of years, dairy farms have experienced dramatic financial increases in input costs.  Brittney will discuss changes Ritchie Smith Feeds have experienced in the livestock feed sector, farm income over feed costs and ideas to improve whole farm efficiency.

John Dick, DVM: Dr. John Dick grew up on dairy farm and has been a practicing dairy veterinarian since 1998 with Greenbelt Veterinary Services Ltd.  Dr. Dick is passionate about working to help dairy clients improve all aspects of their dairy operations.

“Measuring (and Improving) Dairy Herd Health and Performance”
Dr. Dick will share Greenbelt’s experience monitoring and benchmarking dairy herd metrics (production, reproduction, mastitis, lameness, inventory, calf and cow diseases, youngstock growth rates, etc) over the last 12 years and how these are used to improve herd performance.
